Monday, August 9 is World Book Lovers’ Day! All day on August 9 you’ll earn 5% cash back on non-PIN debit purchases made at any Barnes & Noble, Borders, or Hudson Booksellers.

I don’t know about you, but I love to read and I love being surrounded by books. I have four bookshelves stuffed with books (none of which I am looking forward to packing and transporting in my upcoming move) and I’ve read almost all of them. Since I was a kid I’ve loved the smell of a library, the bookishness of it, the quiet respectful way we all tiptoe around the books, the muted crackle of a book cover opening.

FRUGAL TIP: Check out Book Sale Finder to find book sales near you. I hit the one at my local library a few times a year. It supports the library and feeds my addiction for way less than even the bargain book table.

Speaking of books, we’re doing something kind of cool here at PerkStreet headquarters. We’ve started a book club, where each of us reads a book and shares it with the others. Don’t worry, we’ll be sharing with you, too, with video and written blog posts. I’ve chosen The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life for my first read. I’ll pick it up on Book Lovers’ Day and let you know what I think!

This Deal is only valid on Monday, August 9, 2010. The amount you can earn at the 5% cash back bonus rate is limited to $500 per household annually (starting on the day your account was opened). That is seriously a lot of books. The total amount of cash back you can earn remains unlimited.

You will earn unlimited 2% cash back for all non-PIN debit card purchases you make for the first 90 days starting on the day that your account is opened.

After the first 90 days, when your Current Account Balance at the start of the day is $5,000 or more, you'll earn unlimited 2% cash back for all non-PIN debit card purchases you make on that day. When your Current Account Balance at the start of the day is less than $5,000, you'll earn unlimited 1% cash back on all non-PIN debit card purchases you make on that day. If you choose to earn coffee or music perks instead of cash back perks, you'll earn:

Coffee: For every $200 in non-PIN debit card purchases, you will earn 2 cups of coffee when your Current Account Balance at the start of the day is $5,000 or more or 1 cup when it is below $5,000.

Former PerkStreet customers who closed their accounts within the last 24 months are not eligible to receive this offer.

You may switch perks programs at any time with no penalty.

In addition you will earn 5% cash back when shopping at certain retailers. We will announce the retailers and associated time periods for earning 5% cash back at those retailers via Twitter (@perkstreet), our Facebook page or other company communications. The amount you can earn at the 5% cash back bonus rate is limited to $250 per household annually (starting on the day your account was opened). The total amount of cash back you can earn remains unlimited. Unless specific stores are named, qualifying purchases are determined by MCC codes.
