Last Thursday, we sponsored an awesome event for coffee and chocolate lovers at the PerkStreet Lounge in Brooklyn.
Today is a pivotal time for gourmet chocolatiers with grassroots brands popping up across the globe. Traditional brands such as Lindt, Ghirardelli and Godiva are still perched on grocers’ shelves, yet lately some rising stars have emerged on the scene. Bodega activated their first presentation of independent film at the PerkStreet Lounge, transforming it into an intimate cinema setting for 75 people.
Opening with a short film by Sam Valenti, founder of the innovative and cult music label, Ghostly International , it profiled ‘a day in the life of’ DJ/Producer Michna as he discussed his rise to success, from his days as a music student in Miami to putting out his most recent mix tape on cassette.

A rainy day spent getting back to basics with a bit of crafting reminds us all of afternoons in art class making home-made gifts for mom and pop.
Burdastyle’s combined efforts with STC Craft and Melanie Falick Books culminated in a series of workshops to transform the PerkStreet Lounge into a series of stations for DIY ideas to come alive. Throw a few sewing machines in there, spools of thread, reels of fabric and a sack of a potatoes and what do you get? Tote bags, printing blocks and tea cozies, all in the name of non-profits.

PSFK’s Good Ideas Salon overtook the PerkStreet Lounge on a rainy Friday the 13th, presenting Small Batch Culture and Local Entrepreneurship.
Speakers included Abe Burmeister from Outlier, Fabrice Penot from Le Labo and Jacqueline Schmidt from Screech Owl Design.
Opening up with a spread of nachos and guacamole from Papacitos and an array of mini-cupcakes from Nine Cakes (insanely delicious flavors included Apple Cinnamon, Pumpkin Cream Cheese and Chocolate Pear), the 130 hungry attendees then settled into an introduction by Dan Gould, Managing Editor of PSFK, who announced the speakers’ panel.
