    I use Google Voice to send free texting to those not included in my plan or to subscribe to daily texting services (weather, sports scores, etc).

    I also use Skype to talk with friends not included in my plan. I have a regular phone meeting with some girlfriends and we schedule a time and hope on Skype. We can see each other and it is free.

    It takes a little effort, but these two things prevent me from paying for the “almost unlimited” plans at Verizon.
